A new ABN does not mean you cannot finance a ute or a machine. It does mean the big-four scorecard will often say come back in two years. That is a policy setting, not a verdict on your business.

What start-up lenders actually want

Time trading (even 6–12 months helps), GST registration, a clean-enough credit file, a standard asset, and a story that makes sense. Some will look at your experience in the trade even if the company is new. Some want a deposit. Some cap the amount.

How I work these files

I do not send a three-month-old ABN into a full-doc bank product and hope. Rockliff Finance uses specialist and non-bank lenders who already write early-stage equipment. The rate will usually sit higher than a ten-year company with property. The win is getting the gear working so you can earn.

What helps your odds

  • Buy a recognisable asset from a dealer where you can
  • Keep the limit realistic for a new file
  • Be upfront about credit and time in business
  • Have a simple explanation of the work already booked

If you have just hung out the shingle in Brisbane or anywhere in Queensland and you need the vehicle or the plant to start invoicing, call me before you pay a private seller a holding deposit. Sequence matters more on start-up files than on anything else.
